Craigslist Catch: cane-back rattan dining chairs

Craigslist is one of my favorite places to hunt for furniture and decor, whether I'm sourcing for a project or redesigning my own home (again). It takes time, patience, and a keen eye for sifting through the loads and loads of garbage—sometimes literally—to find those specks of pure gold. And while I can't think of a better way to spend an afternoon, I know it's not for everyone. That's where I come in. Just think of me as your Craigslist middleman.

In these recurring "Craigslist Catch" posts, I'm going to be sharing some of my favorite finds from the classifieds, along with some style inspiration, a few tips on how I'd fix them up, and what other pieces I'd pair them with. First up, these beautiful cane-back rattan dining chairs:

Four chairs for $200 is a pretty good deal, but these have been listed for a few weeks now, and the cushions need definite work, so with some negotiating I'd say you could get the price down closer to $100.

The caning on the backs is in great shape, and with a little cleaning up these babies would be perfect in a laid-back, modern-industrial-meets-California-cool kitchen:

See? Look at them up close. I'm seriously tempted. After a good scrub, I'd recover the cushions in one of these three fabrics:

Then, to really bring the vibe we're going for home, I'd finish out the space with a mix of clean lines and natural materials:

And, voila, instant California cool.
